1 Day 1 Cusco - Trekking

We start salkantay trail  4 days 3  nights leaving Cusco at 05:00 travelling through the towns of Izcuchaca, Limatambo, arriving in Mollepata at about 09:00 then begin our trek of the first day after a good breakfast. We begin the walk and at about at noon we will enjoy our first lunch of the trip in an area called Silca Cancha and after a further three or more hours of walking we reach our first camp in Soraypampa.

2 Day 2 Trekking

After a good breakfast at 06:00 we prepare to take the most difficultpart of the trip. Departing at 07:00 the group hikes to a site called Salkantay Pampas in order to move on to the left side of the Umantay Ice peak which is located beside the Salkantay Icepeak and then pass through to the highest point of the trek (Salkantay, Umantay 4500m). On this site you will appreciate the magnificent view of the falls of the thaw of Salkantay. After descending for an hour we have lunch at a place called Ichupata, where we could see hares and foxes, and then we continue our descent for a further 3 hours to reach our camp called Challhuay (or Collpabamba) after passing through the communities of Huayrac and Arrayanniyuc.

3 Day 3 Trekking

This third day after we leave at 7:00am, will be unforgettable as we will see awide variety of flora and fauna along the way from Challhuay. We descend into thesub tropical zone and can appreciate the confluence of the rivers Totora and Salkantay which then become tributaries of the Urubamba river. We will also appreciate the turbulence of the beautiful hot springs and magnificent waterfalls. We arrive at about 13:00pm at the little village called Wiñay, where we have lunch, then after about a 4 hour hike down to the third camp called Sahuayaco Beach we will have our dinner and camp for the night.

4 Day 4 Aguas Calientes

Our departure is planned at 07:30am.

After 2 ½ hours of walking along a where we will appreciate the variety of crops in this area such as coffee and fruit such as bananas, avocados, oranges, passion fruit, and the Coca leaf which was sacred in Inca times and is now cultivated in tropical areas. We arrive in the district of Santa Teresa and then walk along the banks of the river Vilcanota. This is the most exciting day because we will cross Vilcanota River by a suspension bridge called Oroya. After an hour more of walking we arrive at an appropriate place close to ‘Hydro electrica’ where lunch will be served. After a short break we board the train to Aguas Calientes where we will have dinner and spend the night in a basic hostel.

5 Aguas Calientes - Machupicchu - Cusco

After breakfast we head toward the citadel of Machu Picchu climbing along a path of approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes where we have a guided tour of 2 hours after which we have free time to take photos. At an agreed time we return to Aguas Calientes in order to board the train to Cusco.
