In the morning, enjoy a hearty breakfast before we set off for the awe-inspiring citadel of Kuélap. A short drive brings us to this archaeological marvel, perched majestically on a hillside. Here, we delve into the ancient residential complex, absorbing its rich history.

Our voyage continues to the charming town of Nuevo Tingo. From there, we board Peru's first cable car system, embarking on a scenic 20-minute ride over 4 kilometers to Malca Pampa. A brief 20-minute walk then leads us to the heart of Kuélap.

With the guidance of an expert, we embark on a 3-hour exploration of Kuélap's wonders:

  • Ceremonial enclosures
  • The main temple
  • Intricate circular rooms
  • The imposing tower

After our immersive visit, we return via cable car, followed by a delightful lunch. We then head back to the charming city of Chachapoyas, arriving by evening.

2 Explore the Majestic Gocta Waterfall

In the morning, embark on a captivating hike to the base of the enigmatic Gocta Waterfall, standing at an impressive 771 meters and once considered the third tallest in the world. Upon arrival, immerse yourself in the breathtaking amphitheater of the falls.

  • Morning: Begin your day with a scenic drive from Gocta Lodge to the Cocahuico turnoff. Here, we switch vehicles for a journey to the quaint village of Cruz Pata. Embark on a 25-minute walk to the Karajia Sarcophagi, where ancient funerary statues stand guard on a dramatic rocky cliff.
  • Day: After marveling at these historical wonders, we continue our voyage to Luya-Lamud. Savor a delicious regional lunch, a perfect blend of local flavors.
  • Evening: Our adventure resumes with a visit to the Quiocta Cave. Step into a world adorned with thousands of stalagmites and stalactites. This cave served as a cemetery for the ancient Chachapoya people, and you'll witness skeletal remains that tell stories of the past. Conclude your day with a return trip to Chachapoyas.
