On this truly special day you will depart from the hotel early to visit the “Catarata de Gocta”, or Gocta Waterfall. This natural wonder of the world is considered the third highest waterfall in the world, at a height of 711 metres, with a majestic water stream that disappears into a beautiful cloud of mist at the base of the cliff. The falls were kept secret by the local population for thousands of years and were only discovered by the western world in 2005 and have only really been open to tourism since 2009. Upon arrival at the local village and entry point you will go on a guided walk for a few hours to the falls, passing local self-sufficient indigenous Andean farming communities and many types of orchids, birds and butterflies. After the walk you will return to Chachapoyas and to your hotel. Meals: Breakfast
Upon arrival in Chachapoyas you will be met and transported to your hotel to check in. In the morning you will depart on a tour to the Karajia Sarcophagi. This archaeological site consisted of eight Chachapoyas mummies, and originally eight (now seven) tall clay Sarcophagi built the protect the mummies that are positioned high up on an inaccessible cliff-face. Photographs of this site are an iconic image of the Chachapoyas region. Later the tour will continue to the impressive Quiocta Cave, a large cave with thousands of stalagmites and stalagtites covering a giant area, before returning to your hotel in Chachapoyas for the evening.
